We could tell that Summer was finally on its way, and we were lucky enough to have the time to go on a mini-family vacation. We visited the Connecticut and Rhode Island coast for a little bit of fun. Our trip included a trip to the Mystic Aquarium, a windy beach, and lots of swimming in the hotel pool. We debated visiting the Pfizer Groton campus to leave a present (use your imagination here) on the front lawn for giving me a very nice paid vacation, but we did think better of it. After our visit to CT/RI, we went to New York. The grownups were given a very nice afternoon and evening in New York City, courtesy of Super Grandma Joan.
Caroline had her share of illness this Spring, with 3 bouts of strep throat. The 3rd time, her fever shot up so quickly that she had a febrile seizure, and we ended up in the ER. Luckily, it was short-lived, and since we knew what caused the fever, there wasn't any great worry. Then, on my last week off before returning to work, Caroline was struck with Croup (while Dad was "at a conference" in Italy). Caroline felt horrible and had a barking cough for days.
To finally welcome Summer, we held our traditional picnic. This year, we found a very quaint spot called West Farm that may become the regular location for our Solstice celebration. It was great to get the rare opportunity to relax and spend more time with the girls on my unexpected Spring vacation. I am now back at work, and while it is good to rejoin the ranks of the working class, I'm wondering how it was possible for 2 months to go by so quickly.

It wouldn't be a New England vacation if there weren't a lobster shack involved. Think warm lobster meat served on a hot dog bun drenched in butter...yum!
Erin continues to prove herself an adventurous eater. She ate about 10 steamers without batting an eyelash.
The girls had no interest in going near the water, as the wind was blowing 25 mph and it was about 68 degrees.
Dad was tuckered.
During Caroline's bout with croup, we did lots of activities at home to pass the time.1) Plant fairy garden.
Caroline comes up with a new answer for what she wants to be when she grows up.
