Caroline turns 4

Caroline's first large-scale birthday party was held at an indoor playground.

It featured a small moon bouncer,

and a giant bouncer,

and clever steering wheel-propelled carts.

Caroline's friends from school were all there,

and there was even a little kid's room for Erin.

Here's 18 of the 23 kids who attended.

We splurged on a Backyardigans cake that was fantastic,

and a good time was had by all,

especially our new four year-old.

Snow and Sun

January 2011 was without a doubt the coldest, snowiest, most miserable month that we have experienced in Boston. When it was done we'd seen 6 feet of snow, 4 school-closing snow days, and 29 straight days of temps in the thirties or below. Brrr!

Front steps mid-January. Lamp post 3/4 covered.

Next week - lamp post almost covered

Last week of January - completely covered!

Dress up is a favorite indoor activity

Doesn't Caroline look extra-short in this picture?

The girls are finally old enough to read some of the same books, in this case Madeline

The Acton Childrens Museum proved to be too small and crowded to be enjoyed

The Boston Museum of Science, on the other hand, was a huge hit. We couldn't resist visiting the "drug discovery" exhibit. For this one you had to find the one puzzle piece from the bin that fit on the board. Erin did not find it amusing.

Mom and Dad loved the slot machine that simulated phase I clinical trials. The first time Mom pulled the handle she got three "OK's". Dad tried ten times and didn't make it. I guess protein therapeutics are easier than small molecules.

Goodbye snow...

... and hello sun in Florida

Emily, Coco, and Jack with their cousins

Nana and Grampa Mike came to the Mote Marine Aquarium with us

where again the big hit was the Nemo and Dory fish

Erin was not afraid of the sand this time

Caroline wishes that she could stay in Florida all winter. Don't we all

Caroline's transition to the pre-K room at school coincided with lots of things now being too scary for her. To compensate she edits the fairy tales to only contain good characters. See her version of Little Red Riding Hood (with Erin supplying the missing parts!)
