Snow and Sun

January 2011 was without a doubt the coldest, snowiest, most miserable month that we have experienced in Boston. When it was done we'd seen 6 feet of snow, 4 school-closing snow days, and 29 straight days of temps in the thirties or below. Brrr!

Front steps mid-January. Lamp post 3/4 covered.

Next week - lamp post almost covered

Last week of January - completely covered!

Dress up is a favorite indoor activity

Doesn't Caroline look extra-short in this picture?

The girls are finally old enough to read some of the same books, in this case Madeline

The Acton Childrens Museum proved to be too small and crowded to be enjoyed

The Boston Museum of Science, on the other hand, was a huge hit. We couldn't resist visiting the "drug discovery" exhibit. For this one you had to find the one puzzle piece from the bin that fit on the board. Erin did not find it amusing.

Mom and Dad loved the slot machine that simulated phase I clinical trials. The first time Mom pulled the handle she got three "OK's". Dad tried ten times and didn't make it. I guess protein therapeutics are easier than small molecules.

Goodbye snow...

... and hello sun in Florida

Emily, Coco, and Jack with their cousins

Nana and Grampa Mike came to the Mote Marine Aquarium with us

where again the big hit was the Nemo and Dory fish

Erin was not afraid of the sand this time

Caroline wishes that she could stay in Florida all winter. Don't we all

Caroline's transition to the pre-K room at school coincided with lots of things now being too scary for her. To compensate she edits the fairy tales to only contain good characters. See her version of Little Red Riding Hood (with Erin supplying the missing parts!)

Holidays 2010

When the cold weather sets in we head to the Childrens Museum

Caroline went to a birthday party at a gymnastics facility that the kids loved

A small tree for our small house and lots of presents

As expected, Erin loved the act of opening presents more than the contents inside

Caroline showing off some of her gifts

Grandma Lu visited and had a great time with the kids

Erin got to watch a lot of TV, including the original Star Wars

The girls play together well, which means that Erin dutifully follows around Caroline

The year's first big snow didn't interfere with our plans. Erin got to go sledding.

and Caroline got the hang of snow angels

Midweek we headed to NY to see cousins Sabrina and Brooke. The princess dresses have been a hit with all the girls.

Caroline was treated to a carousel ride at the Danbury Mall

and after the snow started to melt we made a snowman

a giant snowman
